EDP Drug & Alcohol Services (EDP) run family support services for friends and families visiting prisons in the South West.
Some of the reasons they work with families are to strengthen relationships between them and the offender thus reducing the risk of relapse upon release and achieve reasonable expectations of family life whilst helping to reduce substance misuse by involving families in recovery plans. EDP can support prisoners and families with:
- Improving and stabilising relationships with partners/ex partners to enable better contact with children; Raising prisoners' awareness of the impact of substance misuse on family.
- Encouraging active involvement in offenders' recovery journey.
- Identification of issues surrounding family that may need addressing.
- Approaches to contact and parenting.
- Exploring healthy relationships and how to develop them while in recovery and custody.
- Reintegrating back into family life on release.
- Understanding the changes made by the prisoner in relation to their recovery from substance misuse.
- General support for families as well as liaison with Social Services.
The service can offer: 1:1 work Group Work, in cell work, meetings with families, telephone calls, emails at HMP's Exeter, Dartmoor, Channings Wood, Guys Marsh and Portland.
