Ormiston Families

Established in 1981, Ormiston is one of the leading children's charities in the East of England. Through their own extensive research and experience Ormiston know that helping children to maintain ties with imprisoned family members can reduce re-offending rates. This can also help to break the cycle of inter-generational offending.

Prison Visitor Centres offer support to families and reinforce the relationships between children and their imprisoned parents, carers and family members. The service includes, but is not limited to, booking visits, provision of family and children's days and play and refreshment facilities in the visits hall.

Parenting courses are designed for imprisoned fathers designed to develop and maintain positive family links. These courses include the OCN-accredited (open college network) 'You & Your Child'.

The One Service: Run in Peterborough in partnership with Social Finance and the St Giles Trust is the country's first social impact bond initiative, which aims to reduce re-offending by developing and maintaining ties between prisoners with short term sentences and their children and families. The service can be opted into by the prisoner whilst in custody, or after release or by a member of their family.
