Visitors & Children's Support Group - HMP Haverigg

The Visitors & Children's Support Group runs the Visitors' Centre, Visits Tea Bar and the Visits Play Area at HMP Haverigg.

The Visitors' Centre at HMP Haverigg offers a child friendly, welcoming place for people visiting their loved ones in prison.

Situated outside the prison gates the Visitors' Centre is staffed by family support workers who offer information and support to family members. A range of hot and cold snacks and refreshments are available within the centre as well as baby changing facilities, a disabled toilet and a multi faith prayer room. Within the Visitors' Centre families can access advice and information through leaflets and an up to date touch screen television. Staff and volunteers are available to offer one-to-one support ensuring visitors are clear about the visits process, particularly for first time visitors. The Visitors & Children's Support Group also run the Tea Bar in the Visits Hall providing a wide range of hot/cold food and refreshments and catering for Halal and other dietary requirements. All the produce used is local and is cooked fresh to order. The play area in the Visits Hall is staffed by two workers. The play area is open, enabling children to take activities back to the visits table to encourage child-parent interaction. Age-specific activities, games and seasonal/cultural activities are also available. There is also a Family Link Worker who works with offenders and their families to provide in-depth support as required. Visitors & Children's Support Group also run a number of lifer and family days throughout the year (in partnership with the prison Chaplaincy) .
