HMIP Praise for Family Provision at HMP Oakwood

Inspectors say 'The provision for prisoners to maintain their family ties was extensive, with an excellent range of visits and other activities.'

The HMIP report on HMP Oakwood, published on 10/7/2018 has praised the work being done to support prisoners and their families.

During the inspection, which was carried out in February - March 2018, inspectors witnessed a range of family-focussed activities which led them to conclude that the 'Provision to enable prisoners to re-establish, maintain and develop relationships with their families was excellent and represented best practice.'

Particular praise was given to the 'extensive and well-thought-out range of family visits on offer to all prisoners (a total of 31 per year), and a homework club, toddlers’ visits, baby bonding club and kids club ... the prison was one of the first to offer a scout pack for prisoners’ children, which was innovative and an additional way for prisoners to spend time with their children.'
