Pact take over the Families Helpline

The Prison Advice and Care Trust (Pact) are now running the re-named Offenders' Families Helpline.

The Prison Advice and Care Trust (Pact) have been awarded the contract to run the well-established Offenders Families Helpline - as part of the new undertaking, the helpline has been renamed as the Prisoners' Families Helpline.

On the change of name, Pact CEO Andy Keen-Downs has said:

'Many people in prison are on remand and some are released not having been convicted of any crime. Labelling people [as offenders] can have a profoundly negative effect. Research shows that when people are labelled, our expectations of them change, and so does our behaviour - and as a consequence - the label itself may become a self-fulfilling prophecy.'
