Isle of Wight Charter for Organisations/Services to Support Children and Families of Offenders

Barnardo's Community Support for Offenders' Families (CSOF) on the Isle of Wight have devloped a Charter for local organisations to sign up to, demonstrating their committment to making a difference for offenders' children.

On signing the Charter organisations declare their awareness of the impact of offending on families and agree to five aims for good practice, including identifying a Champion for offenders' children. In response to their commitment, Isle of Wight CSOF provide Hidden Sentence training to the signatory organisation, consultancy support, a comprehensive resource and services pack, and ongoing support for the selected Champion which includes group supervision with other Champions. Following their training, the Champion becomes the identified point of contact within the organisation for children and families affected by offending providing non-judgmental support and information. They provide guidance to colleagues working with affected families, share practice with external agencies, and raise awareness about the needs of offenders' children and families. Champions attend quarterly group meetings with other Champions.
